waiting for news

This week, we are expecting much-awaited good news on my little guy’s case – news that gets us closer, but not all the way to, adoption – news that gets us closer, but not all the way to, having his little sister placed with us.  So, we are figuratively waiting by the phone.  In the meantime, we try really hard not to think about it.

Don’t think about it.  Just wait.  Don’t make the call yourself.  Just wait.  It’s fine.  Just wait.  Don’t worry.  Just wait.

Yeah.  That is totally working.

While we wait, Let’s look at this tan line together, shall we?

I am so excited for when it’s official enough I can show you pictures from the knees up.  Guys.  He is so cute from the knees up.  Trust me on this one.

Okay.  I promise I did not plan this.  Literally, as I was typing this, I got the e-mail with the news.  AS I WAS TYPING!  You know I’m not casual with my use of “literally.” I don’t use it when I mean “figuratively.”  The news, it is good!  We are closer.  Parental rights have been terminated for little D as of yesterday.  What that means?  Well, it doesn’t mean I can post knees-up pictures yet but it does mean his case is being transferred to the adoption unit.  Oh.  Praise be.  The adoption unit!

You know.  In foster care, you have to pretend tiny victories are giant ones.  Moving to the adoption unit is a tiny victory.  It still means nothing concrete for little sister.  It still means a possibility of 6 months to await any potential parental appeal.  But it means adoption is no longer a dirty word.  It means we get to have a say.  It’s progress – real, not just time passing – progress!

I have to go now.  I have some little feet to kiss, a little face to celebrate with, a little guy to squish a little harder.  He gets to stay!
